Red Moose With Everything You Need to Know About Shoelaces

Many people take shoelaces for granted, just using the ones that come with the shoe and not even really thinking twice about it if they don't like them, they come untied often, or anything else. If you're looking to perfect your look, you'll want to invest in your own high-quality shoelaces. After all, they literally tie the shoe together, providing the finishing touch!

What to Look For?

The first thing to look for is making sure that the shoelace is made from 100% cotton. This will ensure that your laces are durable and flexible, meaning that they're less likely to break at an inopportune time.

Shoelaces also aren't one-size-fits-all. You want to find laces that are available in multiple lengths. And make sure the color you're looking for is available. Black and brown are standard, but you might want to use a different color for a casual occasion or to show some personality.

How Do I Pick the Correct-Length Shoelace?

You'll want to use your shoe size as a guide. If you have a size 8 or 9 foot, you'll want a shorter lace so that the lace's ends aren't touching the ground after you tied them. Conversely, someone wearing a size 12 shoe will want longer laces they have enough lace to tie together at the top of the shoe. Different-sized shoes will typically come with the same length of shoelace, so you may have to buy your own if there isn't a good fit when you try the shoe on.

Waxed or Unwaxed Laces?

In addition to waxed shoelaces being preferred for Oxfords and acceptable for more formal occasions, they also keep the laces water-resistant. Unwaxed laces are more versatile when it comes to different situations and can also be paired with dress shoes as long as they fit. Unwaxed laces also adds some different texture to your shoe. Now that you have the perfect shoelace, all that's left is lacing up your shoe and tying it properly. Check out our blog here to become an all-around shoelace expert!
